According to TMZ, the "Today" show host is "miserable" and "freaked out" because wherever he goes he gets berated by people who blame him for Ann Curry's ouster — even if he is just walking down the streets of New York. Never mind those reports that he refused to renew his contract if Curry remained in her co-anchor chair; Lauer insists that he was not responsible for the fan favorite getting the boot and reportedly says he feels abused by people hollering at him that he's the bad guy.
