Teen lost in Aussie bush for 9 weeks found alive, covered in leeches

1/29/2013

An 18-year-old Australian boy missing since November 27 has been found by hikers in dense forest only a mile or so from his home in suburban Sydney. The hikers found some of Matthew Allen's belongings, including his wallet with his name and address, and alerted authorities. They then located the teen, found covered in leeches and mosquito bites. He reportedly lost half his body weight and is being treated for gangrene in his feet and lower legs. Allen was apparently "only days from death" and it's unknown how he survived so long without food or water in the rugged terrain.
