Mathew Farmer sings on

'Idol' singer admits lies about Army service, forgot people can check

2/2/2013

Listen up, folks: We live in an Information Age. If you start talking about your biography on, say, "American Idol" (especially if it's a heartbreaking tale of darkness and the journey back), it had better be true. So when Matthew Farmer appeared on "Idol" and told judges he had battled back from a brain injury sustained in an IED attack in Iraq, people who served in the Army with Farmer called him out. Soldiers who served with him said Farmer had a substance-abuse problem, which had actually caused his brain injury. The would-be "Idol" contestant admitted to the fabrication and said he’d overdosed on pills at one point but had never seen combat. He's not seeing much sympathy these days either. [Source]
