The magic of time zones means that the most-feared date of the year has arrived in New Zealand — without incident. Dec. 21, 2012, is said to be the end of the Mayan calendar and has spawned everything from terrible end-of-days movies to the decision to close an Argentine mountaintop to prevent the spiritually sensitive from throwing themselves off of it in advance of the apocalypse.
