Open your gifts now: Apocalypse is now scheduled for Christmas Eve

12/24/2012

If you thought you'd escaped the Apocalypse on Friday, think again. A German researcher who specializes in interpreting Mayan artifacts claims that the world might be ending on Dec. 24, not Dec. 21. According to the scientist, Nikolai Grube, while most Mayan writings mention the 21st as the end of the calendar (which many people have interpreted to mean "end of the world"), there are several other dates mentioned, including Dec. 24. Of course, some writings also mention days well past Christmas Eve, so it may just be that the Mayans calendar-makers were hedging their bets. The only thing we can be sure of? The world will end — eventually. So go spend some quality time with your family. [Source]
