Actual Mayans are not thrilled with all that Mayan doomsday panic

Joining NASA in giving the Mayan-calendar-ending-equals-apocalypse theory the side-eye are actual Mayans, who are simply not into doomsday mania. While cults in China fall into hysterics, while others flock to mystical mountains in Europe they believe will be spared (and probably are nice and cozy), the majority of the 7 million modern-day Maya are rolling their eyes at the Armageddon prophecy. They see it as just another way the world is making a quick buck by misinterpreting their heritage (cough cough — Indiana Jones and your crystal skull). As Vera Rodriguez, a psychologist of Maya descent, puts it: "It's a psychosis, a fad, I think it's bad for our society and our culture." [Source]
