McDonald's gives book-starved UK kids volumes with their Happy Meals

1/11/2013

McDonald's in the U.K. is attempting to teach the children of that cold, dark land what a "book" is. With a goal of giving away 15 million tomes by 2015, the fast food chain has started handing out non-fiction and fiction books with its Happy Meals. The McDonald's Happy Readers campaign is apparently attempting to tackle the problem that "one in three children in the UK doesn't own a book," according to the National Literacy Trust. The book giveaway has kicked off with "Stars and Planets," "Big Cats" and "Oceans," which sound like healthy reading materials. [Source]
