Halve meat consumption or kiss the planet goodbye, UN researcher says

2/19/2013

We're eating way too much meat. And it's destroying our planet. According to Prof. Mark Sutton, the lead author of a UN Environment Program study, our generation is putting away many more dead animals than our grandparents did. More meat means more intensive agriculture, which means more water and air pollution "that is damaging to human health" (and everything else). Prof. Sutton has coined the term "demitarian" for halving meat consumption and says the current horsemeat scandal provides rich, Western countries with the perfect opportunity to do so. "Eat meat, but less often — make it special," Sutton optimistically suggests. It's already special, Mr Fancy Professor Man. Now pass that bacon sundae. [Source]
