Men can take more pain than women (so long as someone's watching)
11/1/2012Seems men have won the latest battle in a war that's been raging for millennia. Research by Leeds Metropolitan University in the UK shows that men can take more pain than women. It's not that every male on Earth has the steely blood of Clark Kent running through their veins, but that social pressure to be stoic (while blubbing and screaming, "Please stop! Lord, let it stop!" on the inside) meant that men were less likely to express their hurt. Cruel experiments on 200 male and female British and Libyan also showed that the Libyan guys were tougher, suggesting the effect was more pronounced in men from societies where gender stereotypes were more entrenched. Maybe we need to turn to Libya for a cure for man-flu. [Source]
