Men not actually hard-wired to be unfaithful, study says
6/29/2012Good news, ladies: Men may not be hard-wired to be promiscuous after all, despite a long-held theory. "Bateman's Principle," coined after a famous 1948 experiment with fruit flies, has long been held as evidence that sexual selection makes men naturally promiscuous and females naturally choosy (due to biological factors like excess sperm and limited eggs). Yet a group of researchers now say the evolutionary theory is flawed. A replication they conducted of Bateman's experiment using today's improved technology showed he overestimated certain subjects and used flawed methodology, determining there is no current evidence of sexual selection. So if your significant other spouts off about "spreading his seed," hand him a copy of the paper and tell him where to stick it.
