Proud pot grower pissed his huge crop didn't merit extra jail time

10/26/2012

It’s not that surprising when a man sentenced to prison for 10 years for growing marijuana appeals his sentence. What widened our eyes, though, is that Michael Bennett Gardner Sr. was arguing for MORE jail time. The illegally green-thumbed Australian thought the "heroic quantity" of weed he grew (about 3.5 metric tons, one of the largest crops in the country's history) was an achievement that should've been recognized with a bigger punishment. "The only relevant submission [Gardner] made is that the extent of his trafficking was so great that it fell within the class of cases described as 'the worst category,'" judge Margaret White said when denying his request. Sorry, Michael. We guess size doesn't matter. [Source]
