Kid told to wear crossed-rifles Marines T-shirt inside-out at school
2/28/2013A Genoa-Kingston, Ill., teacher is under fire after taking the school's "gun free zone" policy a step too far and forcing eighth-grader Michael McIntyre to wear his Marines T-shirt inside-out or face suspension. Her objection? The two crossed rifles. Not surprisingly, the boy's father is pissed. "My son is very proud of the Marines," David McIntyre said. "So he wears it with pride." Turns out teacher Karen Deverell was providing her own interpretation of the school dress code, which bans everything from images of drug paraphernalia to gang symbols, but doesn't mention guns. And as for the suspension? Rules state that kids caught wearing inappropriate duds must change into gym clothes. The school has apologized -- and OK-ed the shirt. [Source]
