Vet's 2,000-mile run to honor fallen soldiers comes to emotional end

11/11/2012

MIke Ehredt has taken some very real steps to ensure that fallen soldiers are remembered more than just on Veterans Day. Millions of steps, in fact. The 51-year-old Army vet from Idaho today completes a 2,146-mile run from Minnesota to the Gulf of Mexico, during which he planted a flag for each soldier who lost a life in action in Afghanistan. On Sunday's portion of the run, he was joined by hundreds of marathoners in Galveston, Texas. The project mirrors a 2010 run Ehredt undertook to honor deceased Iraq War vets, and this version of Project America Run has affected Ehredt even more dramatically, particularly when he puts a flag in someone's hand to share the moment. "It's powerful," he said. [Source]
