Louisiana senator wonders, out loud, if E. coli can evolve into humans

Should evolution be taught in classrooms? Many science teachers think so. But Sen. Mike Walsworth isn't so sure. In a video from April 2012 that's getting a huge spike in YouTube views, the Republican Louisiana state senator asks a science teacher about whether she knows any examples of evolution that can be taught in class. She says yes, noting an experiment that studied how E. coli cells changed over time. That's not enough for Walsworth, who asks, "They evolve into a person?" The exasperated teacher practically plants her face into her palm.
