Missing Russian lawmaker's body found in cement-filled barrel

Sometimes Russia makes Eastern Europe look like the Wild West. Moscow police found the body of Russian lawmaker Mikhail Pakhomov on Monday near Moscow, stuffed in a metal barrel filled with cement. The 36-year-old city councilor from Lipetsk was a member of Vladimir Putin’s United Russia party and was reported kidnapped on Feb. 12. "Investigators have gathered enough evidence to establish the violent nature of Pakhomov’s death," police said, in an epic example of understatement. Police have already made ten arrests, and investigators suspect another state official, Yevgeny Kharitonov, might have ordered the murder over unpaid debts. [Source]
