Miss Universe hopeful DQ'd for being born a boy
3/25/2012Are rules rules or are they made to be broken? That's the question officials at Canada's Miss Universe are facing after disqualifying Jenna Talackova for being born a boy. The 23-year-old (shown above on the right), who had her gender reassignment procedure at 19, had breezed into the Miss Vancouver finals before the pageant director reportedly became "suspicious," leading to what must have been delicate questioning and, ultimately, disqualification. Details are thin as to what exactly brought Ms. Talackova's birth gender into question, though it's been revealed she competed previously in transgender pageants. Despite backlash on social media, officials are standing behind the rule stating that each contestant must be a "naturally born female."
