Mitch McConnell objects to himself, filibusters his own Senate bill
12/7/2012The U.S. Senate is a well-oiled machine, never slowed by petty arguments and political grandstanding … sorry, we can't finish that sentence without laughing. It's just not true. As proof, we turn to GOP Sen. Mitch McConnell, who on Thursday tried to show Democrats didn't have enough support to vote a debt ceiling bill through. To prove his point, he called for a vote, expecting the Democrats to refuse and thus look like they don't want to end the debt ceiling debate. However, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid called his bluff. What happened next is likely a first: McConnell had to block his own bill with a filibuster. Meanwhile, the rest of the country got work and was actually productive. [Source]
