Did Mitt Romney lie to help out a friend in a divorce case?
10/24/2012The ex-wife of a Mitt Romney buddy is alleging that Romney lied under oath. Represented by all-purpose attention-seeker Gloria Allred, Maureen Sullivan Stemberg — who was once married to Staples founder Tom Stemberg -- is petitioning a Massachusetts judge to unseal her divorce records. She alleges that Romney "lowballed the value of Staples stock" under oath, which she believes played a role in lowering her divorce settlement. Mother Jones points out that this isn't the first time Maureen Sullivan Stemberg has tried to tell the story — she was formerly involved with a documentary about her life that would have included the Romney episode.
