Mitt Romney finally releases tax return — so how much did he pay?
9/21/2012Mitt Romney has finally released his very secret tax return for 2011. In total, the Romneys paid $1,935,708 in taxes on $13,696,951 in income that came mostly from investments. That puts the Romneys' tax rate at 14.1 percent, which, if we scan our own tax returns, is probably a bit lower than what most Americans contributed. The Romneys donated more than $4 million to charity last year, accounting for about 30 percent of their income, which earned them a deduction of $2.25 million. The campaign also says that over the past 20 years, the Romneys have averaged an effective tax rate of 20 percent, though they don't intend to release any more returns. [Source]
