Mitt Romney 'loves' Big Bird, but still might fire him

One of the more memorable moments of a pretty wonky presidential debate Wednesday night was a line delivered by Mitt Romney that seemed to send one of the most beloved figures in television to the unemployment line. In an exchange with moderator Jim Lehrer on federal budget cuts he told the PBS anchor that he would cut federal funding to PBS – even though he said “I love Big Bird.” The Twittersphere responded in kind, turning the quote into a top trend, even eliciting a response from Big Bird himself. Tweeted the big guy: “WTF Mitt Romney... :(.” Regardless of who wins in November we hope that much like the Thanksgiving turkey gets a presidential pardon, this bird gets one too.
