MLB pitcher aims for 'King of the Freak Injury' title

5/3/2012

Pro baseball players typically aren't allowed to play other sports, ride motorcycles or engage in any other extracurricular activities that might injure them. Lawyers couldn't have predicted some of San Francisco Giants relief pitcher Jeremy Affeldt's injuries, though. Last year his season ended when he cut himself trying to separate frozen hamburgers. Now he's back on the disabled list because he sprained a ligament in his knee while picking up his excited 4-year-old son after Saturday's game against San Diego. "As an athlete you'd rather get hurt doing your job than not doing it," Affeldt said. Maybe the Giants should assign someone to take care of Affeldt's hugging for him?
