MLB star joins pickup game at Washington Monument
5/1/2012Much-ballyhooed Washington Nationals rookie Bryce Harper played his first major league game on Saturday in Los Angeles. His first home game is tonight, unless you count his appearance Monday on the National Mall in D.C., where he and his Mohawk got invited into a pickup softball game near the Washington Monument. Of course, the 19-year-old promptly hammered the ball to kingdom come. Nationals execs who may be worried that their prize slugger could get hurt in such after-hours endeavors shouldn't fret. Willie Mays used to play stickball with kids in the street and he turned out all right.
