Olympic champ Mo Farah detained at customs on suspicion of terrorism
12/31/2012U.S. customs officials did their best to make the world a little safer this week by detaining Olympian Mo Farah when he flew into Portland, Ore., to see his family for Christmas. Farah is a British citizen who trains in Portland, but because of his Somali origin and heavy travel schedule, customs detained Farah on suspicion of terrorism. The runner tried showing customs agents the two gold medals he won at the London Olympics, but Farah was still taken away for questioning. His family was also detained and nearly put through a 90-day terrorism investigation when they first moved to the U.S., until Farah’s coach, Alberto Salazar, got in touch with a friend at the FBI.
