Mobsters have serious food fight over stolen pizza recipe
6/14/2012If there's one lesson to take away from mobster Francis Guerra's racketeering and murder trial, it's that you do NOT steal recipes from The Family. Anthony Russo, a Mafia man-turned-informant, said Guerra threatened to "break [the] head" of Eugene Lombardo over a knockoff of Guerra's in-laws' famous pizza. Lombardo reportedly cased L&B Spumoni Gardens (whose Sicilian slices are often cited among NYC's best) shortly before opening his own pizzeria, but when Lombardo advertised his pies as "L&B-style" pizza, the sauce really hit the fan. The crime families eventually met at a local Panera Bread (really?), and Lombardo had to fork over a $4,000-or-else payoff.
