Moderate drinking makes your brain less good and stuff

10/27/2012

The harmful effects of getting blotto via binge drinking are well known. But science has been telling us that having a couple drinks here or there was not only good for your social life, but also your heart. Now? It turns out that even moderate drinking can reduce new brain cell production. Damn you, science. A new study (using rats) found moderate amounts of booze might not mess with your motor skills or short-term memory, but even temperate daily drinking for two weeks reduced the production of new brain cells by nearly 40 percent. The lesson? Rats cannot hold their liquor. J/K! It actually means scientists still don’t know how much drinking is OK and how much is harmful. [Source]
