Mom shocked her son's MLK blackface costume is offensive
5/19/2012We don't know what's more alarming: that an 8-year-old's parents thought it was a good idea for their son to dress up as Martin Luther King Jr. in blackface, or that they were shocked that anyone would find the racial caricature offensive. Sean King showed up to his second-grade class in Colorado Springs, Colo., on May 16 dressed as MLK, including face paint and a fake mustache, and was asked to remove the paint after students and faculty told the principal they were offended. His mother's reaction to the incident was, uh, insightful: "I think it's pretty sad that you've got a principal and a faculty member that are acting the way they are when they should be setting an example for children," Michelle King-Roca said.
Do you find the kid's presentation offensive?
