The North Face is under fire for using feathers from force-fed geese to fill its down jackets, despite earlier claims that its jackets were ethically produced, the Telegraph reports. The geese, from Hungarian farms, are artificially fattened so their livers can be used for foie gras, a French delicacy. Animal activists declare that the process is cruel, and foie gras has been taken off shelves in many UK grocery stores. A foie gras ban in California will begin in July. The feathers for the jackets in question were supplied by Allied Feather & Down, which also supplied clothing company Patagonia. Both companies are looking for new down suppliers.
Would you wear a jacket made with feathers from force-fed geese?
just an FYI, ethical foie gras can be produced, and down can be more ethically sourced than how it erstwhile was by the North Face as well. Why are people afraid of challenging the status quo, and why are there errant assumptions that American taxpayer money is even being spent in any of this production either way? Legislation to ban imported unethically-raised foie gras in CA doesn't affect your wallet or even jobs, per se, so why is there so much reflexivity here?
Here we go...Typical American thinking. Let's spend millions of dollars (that we don't have) to come out with another politically correct law that solves nothing just so the tree huggers are happy. We buy down coats because they're warm. down comes from geese(birds). Geese die for our needs. I'm sure you're off to the toilet right now to throw up at the thought. Get a life!
GOD SAVE AMERICA!
Umm. I think the issue here is that North Face lied and said they were "ethically produced". They can malke the jackets from baby seal skin for all I care. Just advertise honestly. I am sure they were charging a premium for those "ehically produced" jackets as well.
People have the right to buy what they want and deserve the right to know how it was made.
i also dont think shutting down a hungarian feather farm is whats hurting our economy either.lol I am guessing the billions of dollars in tax breaks to oil companies does more damage..............
Well Shari if conservatives like you would get off your high horse and adopt a few of those babies your all pro life for maybe those poor children of poor parents wouldn't grow up poor and our economy would improve.
As far as North Face... I have bought those coats and will again. The feathers are a by product considering they are raising them for their livers anyways. Why shouldn't they get the most out of it.
GEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEZZZZZZZZZZUUUUUUUUUUUUUUSSSSSSSSSSSSS
We have an economy that is spiraling downward, millions of folks are out of work because our jobs are overseas, drugs and murder are rampant, millions are in foreclosure and will be losing their homes, gas prices are approaching $4.00 and will probably be close to $5.00 by summer, grocery prices are astronomical, and we are writing about force fed geese feathers in some stupid designer jackets????????? Stupid should hurt!!!!!!!!
