Desperate Cowboys hire elderly Monte Kiffin to liven up their defense
1/12/2013These days, the Dallas Cowboys are run like a struggling movie studio desperate for a hit: In hopes of turning things around, the team throws money at an aging star whose best days are behind him. So of course the Cowboys have exhumed 72-year-old Monte Kiffin — last seen presiding over porous defenses for his son Lane at USC — as their new defensive coordinator. Kiffin, of course, was a successful NFL coordinator for years and the maestro behind the famed "Tampa 2" scheme. His tenure at USC was marked by uneven performances from units annually stocked with the best high school recruits in the country, but evidently the Cowboys don't think will be problem in Dallas.
