Cheer up, New Yorkers: At least it's less pricey than Tokyo or Sydney

2/5/2013

New Yorkers, if you think Gotham is expensive, it’s a downright bargain compared to Asia and Australia. The Economist Intelligence Unit released its annual list of the world’s most expensive cities, and the top 20 is dotted with cities in those continents. Two of the top five are in Australia — Sydney in third and Melbourne in fifth — which is a meteoric rise for a country that had no cities in the top 50 only a decade ago. Japanese cities hold the top two spots, with Tokyo No. 1 (just like it was in June) and Osaka ranking second. Vancouver, B.C., is the most expensive North American city at No. 21, while New York and Los Angeles are tied at No. 27 for priciest American cities. [Source]
