Most racist tweets came from states Obama lost, says very tiny study
11/10/2012Following Barack Obama’s re-election, some less-than-enlightened folks seriously unhappy with this result took to Twitter, unleashing a torrent of racist tweets that repeatedly used the N-word. The Floating Sheep, a group of geographers, decided to map where the tweets came from, so they located 395 "hate tweets" and charted them on a map of the U.S. (Because in a country of more than 300 million, 395 is apparently a significant sample, and also, did nobody care what kind of anti-Mormon hate speech might be there?) Their findings? That most of the hateful tweets came from red states, often in the South, with the highest concentration in Alabama and Mississippi; however, several non-Southern states — Missouri, North Dakota and Utah — also had a high number of tweets.
