Baby born in airplane lavatory named EK after the flight number

Giving birth thousands of miles over Indochina probably wasn’t specified in this Filipino mother Nedz’s birthing plan, but that’s where her son was born. Emirates flight EK332 was midway between Dubai and Manila on Aug. 22 when the pregnant passenger went to the lavatory. Two nurses noticed she was in pain and that her husband was pacing nervously. By the time the nurses offered to help, baby EK, born at 27 weeks and named after the Emirates flight code, had plunked into the toilet bowl and was turning bluish-brown. The nurses swiftly unblocked the infant’s nose, mouth and ears and rigged up a makeshift preemie ICU using oxygen masks and LED reading lamps. Mom’s fine, but little EK is still in critical care.
