Muscle car legend, Shelby Mustang designer dies5/11/2012
The man responsible for some of the most powerful and iconic American muscle cars ever built, Carroll Shelby, died Thursday night at the age of 89. Shelby not only created the Shelby Cobra -- the car that whipped Ferrari on racetracks in the '60s -- but he's also thought to be the only man to have won Le Mans as a driver, car builder and team owner. The lanky Texas legend was also responsible for the classic Shelby GT350 Mustang, a car that survives, in modern iteration as the ferocious 650-horsepower, V8-powered Shelby GT500 Mustang, in Ford's stables to this day.
