Newsweek's #MuslimRage hashtag taken over by raging Twitterverse
9/18/2012Today, Newsweek published a fire-stoking cover story titled "Muslim Rage," with a cover photo showing angry Muslims. The piece was written by Somali-Dutch academic Ayaan Hirsi Ali, an outspoken critic of Islam — in the Newsweek story she wrote that Muslim extremists actually "represent the mainstream of contemporary Islam." Newsweek, expecting a surge in traffic over the controversy-generating story, created a hashtag — #MuslimRage — for commenters to discuss the piece. The hashtag was quickly taken over by outraged Twitter users, especially Muslims, who left a flood of tweets mocking the magazine's shameless trolling. "I’m having such a good hair day.
