Italian school decides hanging a portrait of Mussolini is a swell idea
10/14/2012Schools are meant to be gardens of the mind, educational spaces where we're inspired by beloved iconic figures: Mother Teresa, Gandhi, Mussolini … wait, what? A high school in Italy has come under fire for hanging a portrait of the fascist dictator responsible for hundreds of thousands of deaths. Locals in Ascvoli Piceno want the portrait of "Il Duce," as the violent leader was known, to be taken down; however, the school's administration is defending it. Principal Arturo Verna says the recently restored work of art, which depicts Mussolini on a horse, is historical. Well, so are pictures of Hitler, but do we really need one hanging over the chalkboard while we're doing our algebra? [Source]
