Indian newspaper IDs opening ceremonies gatecrasher
7/29/2012A mystery woman wearing a bright-red jacket and turquoise pants who marched ahead of the Indian delegation at Friday night's opening ceremonies has been identified, after plenty of online speculation. An English-language newspaper in India says the gatecrasher is Madhura Nagendra, a graduate student and Indian ex-pat living in London. Olympic staffers believe the woman, who looks slightly dazed and like she just hit the Olympics jackpot, had a volunteer role in the ceremony and stuck with the delegation as it entered the stadium instead of staying behind, as she was supposed to. While Nagendra's alleged crime caused considerable consternation in India, the reaction in the U.K. was more muted, with Olympics organizer Sebastian Coe saying she was just "a cast member who clearly got slightly over-excited.” [Source]
