What was before commonly seen as a nervous tic or just an unconscious habit has been redefined by psychologists as a facet of obsessive compulsive disorder – news that is sure to give already anxious nail biters a case of the, erm, munchies. A new version of the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, expected out next year, now lists nail biting and other "pathological grooming" habits in the same category as OCD.
