Navy signal inconveniently jams homeowners' garage doors
7/24/2012Residents of Hartford, Conn., must have been baffled when they couldn’t use their remote controls to open or close their garage doors, even after nothing was found to be wrong with the gadgets. The U.S. Navy has solved the puzzle, however, by saying that a radio signal from a submarine base could be causing the malfunction. The military signal is apparently using the same frequency that the garage door remote controls use at low levels. A spokesperson for the submarine base said the needs of homeland security take precedence, so annoyed homeowners might have to pony up some cash to change their remote controls' frequency. [Source]
