NC bill proposes ignoring all data about rising sea levels
6/2/2012A rising tide doesn't float the boat of an economic development group in North Carolina that is pushing legislation mandating that the state government ignore any new data suggesting the sea level is rising. In fact, the bill would turn back the clock to 1900 to start measurements because, as the chairman of NC-20, Tom Thompson, noted, "We're skeptical of the rising sea level science." Retorts East Carolina University prof Stan Riggs, "Clearly they don't understand science at all." Well, the group represents the 20 coastal counties in the state of North Carolina, so presumably they get the science that says there's money to be made in building more beachfront condos and hotels.
When should economic concerns trump science?
