Bunnies may have somehow managed to kill off the Neanderthals
3/3/2013It’s always the one you least expect, right? According to researchers, rabbits may have killed off the Neanderthals (although we’d swear one cut us off in a supermarket parking lot the other day). No, not by attacking them with razor-sharp buck teeth, but indirectly: Rabbits outran Neanderthals and were too fast for our lumbering simian cousins to catch for food, while larger slower animals dwindled in number. While humans would work together to flush rabbits out of a den and eat their nimble little legs much like we enjoy hot wings today, Neanderthals apparently didn’t have the wherewithal to hunt in groups and when they tried to catch rabbits solo were about as effective as Elmer Fudd.
