Nearly a quarter of us believe the world will end — soon5/2/2012
A hefty 22 percent of Americans believe the world will end in their lifetime, according to a new survey. The cheery poll's research manager Keren Gottfried said "one in seven" worldwide respondents feared the gloomy outcome, citing reasons including "the hands of God," "a natural disaster" or "a political event." The international average for apocalyptic concern was around 15 percent. Only Turks are as paranoid as us, while the French are the most serene -- must be all that wine and cheese -- with only 6 percent worrying about impending destruction. The uplifting findings come around seven months before the "end" of the Mayan calendar on Dec. 21, 2012, which some believe marks the end of the world.
