8/26/2012Moon landings weren't the only thing Neil Armstrong was known for. The beloved astronaut, who died Saturday at age 82, was also a dedicated husband and family man. The Ohio native was famous for his humility and reportedly chosen to step first on the moon because "he did not have a big ego and could handle the historic moment." The astronaut was notably press-shy; however, a rare photographic glimpse inside his home in 1969 revealed an everyday guy baking pizza, smoking cigars and playing with his kids. "I am, and ever will be, a white socks, pocket protector, nerdy engineer," he said in 2000. [Source]
