Neil Armstrong, the first man on the moon, has died at age 82

8/25/2012

Neil Armstrong, the first man to set foot on the moon, died today at the age of 82. After descending the ladder from the Apollo 11 lunar module to the moon's surface on July 20, 1969, Armstrong remarked, "That's one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind." Half a billion people watched the event on TV, an astounding figure for the time. The exact cause of Armstrong's death has not been reported, though he recently underwent heart-bypass surgery to relieve blocked coronary arteries. In a statement, Armstrong's family said, "Next time you walk outside on clear night & see moon smiling down at you, think of Neil & give him a wink." [Source]
