New cars will be required to have back-up cameras by 2014
2/29/2012According to the New York Times, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration will announce a plan to make back-up cameras standard equipment on all passenger cars by 2014. The move is expected to cost the auto industry up to $2.7 billion per year -- at an average cost to the consumer of an extra $160 to $200 per vehicle -- but the agency is weighing that cost against the benefit of saving up to 112 lives and preventing 8,374 injuries per year.
