New dual-focus contact lenses could give soldiers super-sight
5/5/2012This seems like something out of "Terminator": The Defense Department has put in an order with tech firm Innovega for dual-focus contact lenses that could provide soldiers with stellar vision on the battlefield. Used in conjunction with special "head-up unit displays" (they look more or less like eyeglasses), the lenses would allow soldiers to focus on objects both close at hand and at a distance. Even more futuristically, bits of video, such as from drones or satellites, could be viewed on the glasses, giving soldiers unprecedented views of a battlefield that are more reminiscent of a video game than normal combat. Head-up unit displays are already in use, but these new models are reportedly sleeker and easier to use.
Do you think this tech is awesome or a little creepy?
