New Hampshire lawmakers consider voting themselves free skiing
2/20/2013Oh, the rough life of a New Hampshire legislator. As numerous states grapple over cutting funds to schools, prisons and social programs, the Granite State is painstakingly weighing whether its lawmakers should get free ski passes. True, the nation is suffering some of its greatest financial burdens in decades, but tell it to the N.H. House of Representatives, which will vote this week on whether politicians should ski at Cannon Mountain on the taxpayer's dime. The majority of the Legislative Administration Committee is against the bill and opponents argue using the perk would be worth over double a lawmakers' biennial salary if lawmakers took advantage of it even a half dozen times. Yet supporters note they get access to state parks and that "promotes awareness of the locations." Yeah ... and shredding fluffy powder promotes what exactly? [Source]
