School band hits sour note with Russian Revolution theme
9/25/2012The New Oxford High School Marching Band, in New Oxford, Penn., marched into hot water on Friday by performing a football-game halftime show commemorating the bloody Russian Revolution with bright red flags, military outfits, hammers, sickles and all. "It was ‘Glee’ meets the Russian Revolution," an irate parent told Fox News, suggesting the millions who suffered and died under Communism as a result of the 1917 revolution would not have been amused. "They had giant hammers and sickles and they were waving them around … Who thought this was a good idea?" The school administration first defended the show as a history lesson, noting that in 2008, the district "did an entire show on freedom, " but finally agreed to change the show's name and remove the hammers and sickles.
