In Sydney (where it's summer, so revelers were wearing flip-flops and shorts), they launched 7 tons of fireworks worth $6.9 million from the Sydney Harbor Bridge, a Technicolor explosion that’s believed to be the world's largest fireworks display. Two hours earlier, officials in Wellington, New Zealand, had to cancel the midnight pyrotechnics because of strong winds.
