While you're working, drunk Aussies are already celebrating New Year's

12/31/2012

Those lucky Australians and New Zealanders have already mounted their 2013 One Direction calendars, because they were celebrating the new year before those of us in the U.S. had even had our first cup of coffee. In Sydney (where it's summer, so revelers were wearing flip-flops and shorts), they launched 7 tons of fireworks worth $6.9 million from the Sydney Harbor Bridge, a Technicolor explosion that’s believed to be the world's largest fireworks display. Two hours earlier, officials in Wellington, New Zealand, had to cancel the midnight pyrotechnics because of strong winds. Sure, you guys get to celebrate first, but you'll have the first hangovers, too. [Source]
