Careful, partyers, New Year's is the most deadly day for pedestrians

12/31/2012

With 2013 shortly upon us, it's time to start thinking about those New Year's resolutions. Here's one: Don't get hit by a car while crossing the street. Researchers in the Injury Prevention journal have discovered that New Year's Day is the single deadliest day for pedestrians, with records showing that 99 walkers have been killed on Jan. 1 between 1986 and 2002. Unsurprisingly, most of the deaths happen between midnight and 6 a.m. as revelers dash from event to event. The good news is that New Year's falls on a Tuesday this year — the day of the week with the lowest rate of car crash deaths. [Source]
