No murders for 9 days: NYC homicide rate drops along with the mercury

1/27/2013

It turns out the frigid East Coast weather might not be all bad. New York City, an often-gritty metropolis, hasn’t had a single murder in nine days. Although that number may not seem so staggering to the average American town, it defies all odds in the Big Apple, with the murder rate down 21 percent over last year thus far. The NYPD points to the recent cold snap as the probable homicide deterrent, noting the last time they went this long was in the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy. If this cold continues, all New Yorkers might soon be nice — holding doors for each other, inviting their neighbors for tea — it could be anarchy! [Source]
