Countdown to NYC soda ban proves the law is still wildly unpopular

It's the sound of peeved New Yorkers scoffing, jabbing and crying "Nanny State" at Mayor Michael Bloomberg as the Big Apple revs up for its soda ban, set to take effect on March 12. After officials mailed handouts last week to local businesses detailing the new law and explaining the associated fines, critics called it "ludicrous" and "silly" (much like they did when it was first announced). One particularly ridiculed piece of the bill, which prohibits large-quantity sales of sugary drinks, is that cranberry juice carafes, for instance, will no longer be permitted at tables in nightclubs as drink mixers. Another is that pizza joints won't be allowed to deliver 2-liter bottles of Pepsi or Coke. Customers will instead by a bunch of tiny bottles, costing more and creating more waste. [Source]
